The Brief
VisitPITTSBURGH is the official tourism promotion agency for Allegheny County Pennsylvania.VisitPITTSBURGH's sports marketing and development group is charged with identifying and securing significant sporting events for Pittsburgh and the surrounding area. With some recent success, the group is focused on growing this segment of the organizations business - further cementing Pittsburgh as a significant player in the sports marketplace. Pittsburgh has established itself as a unique sports market, being named the "Best Sports City" by the Sporting News magazine.
Our Response
We engaged key stakeholders within the Pittsburgh region in a two phase project - with phase one focusing on the strategy of identifying, attracting and hosting important sporting events. Those individuals involved in this initial phase include, top-level representatives from the three Pittsburgh professional franchises, leaders in various secondary and higher education contexts, corporate executives and political leaders from the city and county.
The second phase will involve a more tactical approach, involving key stakeholders within the
community. These venue managers, sport organisation leaders and hospitality leaders will take an active and direct role in attracting and staging events.
